University of Michigan Move-In Week is: NEXT WEEK

Aug 23, 2011   //   by Metro Delivery   //   Events, News Stories  //  No Comments

For the week beginning Monday, August 29th, we won’t expect to move too quickly through any streets with dormitories.

Some streets will be closed, people will be carrying couches, stereo speakers and those little refrigerators back and forth, and thousands of students and proud parents will be negotiating Ann Arbor’s one-way street system for the first time.

The heaviest move-in traffic will be  Wednesday through Friday, but some students may start moving in earlier in the week.

Drive carefully!

Metro Delivery Company Picnic 2011

Jul 11, 2011   //   by Metro Delivery   //   Employee Highlights, Events  //  No Comments

Lots of employees showed up for the Annual Company Picnic, held July 10 at Rolling Hills Water Park (which our kids particularly appreciate). Really tasty cheeseburgers, hotdogs and side dishes were provided by Gary’s Catering, which was MUCH easier than previous years when we’ve done all the grilling ourselves. Why didn’t we think of that before?

Metro’s 4th Fourth of July Ann Arbor Parade

Jul 4, 2011   //   by Metro Delivery   //   Employee Highlights, Events, News  //  1 Comment

We’ve been a featured part of the Ann Arbor Jaycees 4th of July Parade every year since 2008, with our beach-ball-loaded 24′ liftgate truck leading the way  and one of our kicky new Ford Transits bringing up the rear.

This year, we “delivered” some 460 red-white-and-blue beach balls to the throngs of people who lined the streets on a perfect day for a parade. Another great event, another great time.

Happy Independence Day, Ann Arbor!

Metro managers John Rabideau and Sebastian Wreford were on hand at the April event to accept the Motawi Tile plaque pictured below for providing free delivery of foods donated to eliminate hunger in Washtenaw County.

“FoodGatherers are a terrific organization, and so friendly. We’re always glad to help out.” said Sebastian Wreford.

Metro Delivery Converts Fleet to Santa Mobiles

Dec 18, 2009   //   by Metro Delivery   //   News Stories  //  No Comments

Drivers Double as Elves

Metro Delivery vehicles don’t resemble sleighs but all are adorned this holiday season with signs proclaiming them Santa Mobiles on behalf of Toys for Tots – and, though drivers remain in uniform, badges identify them as Official Collection Elves.

“In addition to transporting donated toys from collection to sorting sites, our drivers are accepting toy donations from customers,” says Owner Sarah Talbot, noting that driver badges also “give a nudge with a message that says ‘Ask Me’ about Toys for Tots.”

As a third prong, Metro Delivery is conducting its own toy drive and also has developed participation from other businesses. Stadium Pharmacy and Stadium Opticians, Ann Arbor, and Morty’s Garden Center, Dexter, are new public collection sites; and John Hatch, DDS and Dominant Systems, Ann Arbor, signed up to sponsor internal toy drives.

Toys for Tots will accept donations through Friday, December 19, according to Tony Gillum, Washtenaw County Coordinator. Donated toys must be new, in original boxes, not gift wrapped and appropriate for ages 1-12 years. Stuffed toys are discouraged due to allergies.

“If ever there was a time for benevolence, this is the year,” Gillum said. “We want to make sure every child in Washtenaw County finds toys under the tree this Christmas.”

For information on how to contribute or participate, phone 313-363-9488.

Metro Delivery Honored for Environmental Protection

May 18, 2009   //   by Metro Delivery   //   News, News Stories  //  No Comments

Metro Delivery of Ann Arbor has been chosen as a Waste Knot Award Partner for its waste-reduction program by the Washtenaw County Department of Planning and Environment.

The Waste Knot Program won national recognition when it received the Wise Gold Award for Community Involvement last year from the federal Environmental Protection Agency. Locally, businesses must submit a written application and pass an on-site inspection to earn designation as an Award Partner.

Metro Delivery’s waste reduction program is directed by John Rabideau, General Manager, and Ken Ridley, Field Agent. “This designation is both a reward and a stimulus for even greater efforts on our part,” said Rabideau.

Metro Delivery recently was named a Waste Knot Award Partner by Washtenaw County.
