Sphinx Competition
Metro was proud to donate delivery services to the Sphinx Competition this year.
Our friends at Morgan and York donated a gourmet lunch for all the musicians, and we did a fast delivery from Morgan & York in Ann Arbor to the Stage Door of the beauteous Max M. Fisher Theatre in Downtown Detroit.
From their website: The annual Sphinx Competition offers young Black and Latino classical string players a chance to compete under the guidance of an internationally renowned panel of judges and to perform with established professional musicians in a competition setting. Its primary goals are to encourage, develop and recognize classical music talent in the Black and Latino communities.
Congratulations to the Winners, and to all the great young musicians! We hear it was a fantastic show!
Toys for Tots Appreciation Certificate
Thank YOU, Toys for Tots, for the 2,500 children in Washtenaw County that had a better Holiday this year because of your efforts. We’re proud to be of assistance.
Metro Delivery Receives Toys for Tots Award 2011
The Staff of Metro Delivery were honored with an award, and a handsome wall plaque, by Tony Gillum, Program Coordinator for Toys for Tots, who came personally and in full uniform to our warehouse to thank us for our assistance in turning truckloads of toys into Happy Holidays for over 600 local children.
Metro donates trucks and drivers to Toys for Tots, and all of us here are thrilled to be a part of the good works they do. Thanks, Tony!

Metro Delivery Converts Fleet to Santa Mobiles
Drivers Double as Elves
Metro Delivery vehicles don’t resemble sleighs but all are adorned this holiday season with signs proclaiming them Santa Mobiles on behalf of Toys for Tots – and, though drivers remain in uniform, badges identify them as Official Collection Elves.
“In addition to transporting donated toys from collection to sorting sites, our drivers are accepting toy donations from customers,” says Owner Sarah Talbot, noting that driver badges also “give a nudge with a message that says ‘Ask Me’ about Toys for Tots.”
As a third prong, Metro Delivery is conducting its own toy drive and also has developed participation from other businesses. Stadium Pharmacy and Stadium Opticians, Ann Arbor, and Morty’s Garden Center, Dexter, are new public collection sites; and John Hatch, DDS and Dominant Systems, Ann Arbor, signed up to sponsor internal toy drives.
Toys for Tots will accept donations through Friday, December 19, according to Tony Gillum, Washtenaw County Coordinator. Donated toys must be new, in original boxes, not gift wrapped and appropriate for ages 1-12 years. Stuffed toys are discouraged due to allergies.
“If ever there was a time for benevolence, this is the year,” Gillum said. “We want to make sure every child in Washtenaw County finds toys under the tree this Christmas.”
