Metro Delivery Receives Toys for Tots Award 2011

Jan 30, 2012   //   by Metro Delivery   //   Employee Highlights, News, News Stories  //  No Comments

The Staff of Metro Delivery were honored with an award, and a handsome wall plaque, by Tony Gillum, Program Coordinator for Toys for Tots, who came personally and in full uniform to our warehouse to thank us for our assistance in turning truckloads of toys into Happy Holidays for over 600 local children.

Metro donates trucks and drivers to Toys for Tots, and all of us here are thrilled to be a part of the good works they do. Thanks, Tony!

The Metro Delivery Purple Heart is Awarded to:

Oct 27, 2011   //   by Metro Delivery   //   Employee Highlights  //  No Comments

…The noble if impulsive Clyde, who was critically injured in the line of duty, charging through a plate-glass door to protect Metro President Sarah Talbot from the UPS Guy.

The UPS Guy was observed by Clyde approaching Clyde’s Domain in what Clyde perceived to be a suspicious manner. And so Clyde figured he’d better take care of him.

We hasten to note that the UPS Guy was unhurt, just unhappily surprised at the near-mortally wounded dog crashing to his feet in a shower of glass.*

We have explained to Clyde that he really doesn’t need to defend us from other Delivery Companies, although we appreciate that he’s willing, if necessary, to sacrifice even to the point of severing arteries and tendons and requiring tourniquets and emergency trips to surgery, and all that.

Clyde is expected to be healed up by Christmas, so Santa Claus might want to plan his approach on Clyde’s house carefully.

*The UPS Guy will henceforth be dropping and picking up all of the President’s packages at a less exciting location: the Pet Shop up the street.

Driver Pictures from the Road: Tim’s Missourable Rest Stop

Oct 21, 2011   //   by Metro Delivery   //   Employee Highlights  //  1 Comment

Sadly, we rarely have time to pause for photo opportunities when we’re moving something crucial interstate, so we appreciate that Tim took advantage of his pit stop to document a Metro vehicle in Missouri.

And look! Isn’t that the St. Louis Arch?

KEEP YOUR HANDS ON THE WHEEL, TIM!

Yes, that was the Arch, all right. Well, that was something to see.

…and we’re moving on!

Our Most Exotic Delivery

Oct 6, 2011   //   by Metro Delivery   //   Employee Highlights, Historical Artifacts  //  No Comments

We posted these pictures a few months ago on our Facebook, but we like them so much we wanted to add them to the blog here, as well.

Last Summer, we transported  a truckload of exotic African Animal heads & trophies to be auctioned off from the estate of some Old-School Big-Game Hunter… it was an unusual and delicate load, indeed, but not a whisker was ruffled, not an antler went awry in transport.

Metro Delivery Company Picnic 2011

Jul 11, 2011   //   by Metro Delivery   //   Employee Highlights, Events  //  No Comments

Lots of employees showed up for the Annual Company Picnic, held July 10 at Rolling Hills Water Park (which our kids particularly appreciate). Really tasty cheeseburgers, hotdogs and side dishes were provided by Gary’s Catering, which was MUCH easier than previous years when we’ve done all the grilling ourselves. Why didn’t we think of that before?

Metro’s 4th Fourth of July Ann Arbor Parade

Jul 4, 2011   //   by Metro Delivery   //   Employee Highlights, Events, News  //  No Comments

We’ve been a featured part of the Ann Arbor Jaycees 4th of July Parade every year since 2008, with our beach-ball-loaded 24′ liftgate truck leading the way  and one of our kicky new Ford Transits bringing up the rear.

This year, we “delivered” some 460 red-white-and-blue beach balls to the throngs of people who lined the streets on a perfect day for a parade. Another great event, another great time.

Happy Independence Day, Ann Arbor!

Ann Arbor Company Helps Employee Help Dogs

Sep 21, 2008   //   by Metro Delivery   //   Employee Highlights, News, News Stories  //  No Comments

Rescued dogs were gifted with new wheels October 4 when Metro Delivery of Ann Arbor presented the keys to a refurbished cargo van to Detroit’s Home Furever – the first donation based on contributing to its employees charitable interests.

It all started with Driver Bill Peterson of Royal Oak, a longtime volunteer with Home Furever, whose dog rescue services include transport to foster homes, veterinary visits and adoption clinics. “Our old van was a wreck. You could see through the floor boards,” Peterson said. “So I asked about getting a company van donated.”

Appropriately, it was Peterson who handed over the van keys to Marilyn McKiddie, founder and director of Home Furever, during an adoption clinic at Petco, Troy attended by about 25 available dogs plus human representatives from Metro Delivery.

Peterson’s efforts did more than upgrade transportation for abused and abandoned dogs. At Metro Delivery, it also led to a new policy for charitable donations.

“Supporting what our employees believe in just seemed like a great way to keep them involved,” said Sarah Talbot, founder and president. “We’ve got 60 employees and we’d like to see all of them contributing to their communities.”

Home Furever conducts weekly adoption clinics, most frequently at Petco, 1217 Coolidge Highway, Troy. For dates, times, sites and dog photos/descriptions, go to homefurver@comcast.net
